ontdekt: 1-6-2000

Graancirkel te Ubachsberg (L) Gemeente Voerendaal.

Op zaterdag 3-6-2000 ontving de DCW (Dutch Cropcircle Webring) een melding van de Belgische cereoloog Ludwig de Vocht, die rijdende op de snelweg A 76 van Heerlen naar Aken (B), de formatie ontdekte. Ik dank Ludwig hartelijk voor deze melding.

Reeds eerder zijn er in dit veld graancirkel formaties ontstaan, en wel in 1993, het zogenaamde "planetenpictogram", alswel een formatie in het graancirkel topjaar 1996.

In het telefonische contact dat ik met de landeigenaar had, bleek deze nog niet op de hoogte te zijn van de formatie in zijn veld.

Reconstruerend kan vastgesteld worden dat de formatie in de nacht van 31-5-200 op 1-6-2000 (Hemelvaartsdag) ontstaan is.

Bij het betreden van het veld bleek dat de toegang verschaffende tramlines (Tractorsporen) niet eerder betreden waren, zodat ik een "ongeschonden" formatie mocht aantreffen.

De stengels van het nog jonge gewas waren gebogen, maar niet gebroken, waardoor de planten, gezien het groeizame weer, alweer een behoorlijk stuk omhoog gegroeid waren.

Metingen binnen de formatie met het kompas, vertoonden geen significante verschillen met metingen buiten de formatie. Opmerkelijk is echter wel dat mijn GSM telefoon het binnen de graancirkel liet afweten, hoewel er meer dan voldoende signaal was.

De formatie bestaat uit een viertal cirkels, die een gebied beslaan van ca. 48 x 48 meter.

De grootste cirkel is ca 25 meter in doorsnede, de overige cirkels zijn ca. 10, 7.5, en 10 meter in doorsnee.

Zeer interessante informatie, ontving ik van Karin en Peter, die ik in de formatie ontmoette. Via hen mocht ik vernemen dat het veld waarin de formatie is ontstaan, zich op een breuklijn bevindt.

De formatie ligt aan de voet van de Benzenraderbreuk, die onderdeel uitmaakt van de "Rijndalslenk", waartoe ook andere zijbreuken behoren, zoals de "Feldbies" en de "Peellandbreuk"

Deze breuk is ontstaan zo’n 35 miljoen jaar geleden in het Oligoceen. Op de top van de helling treft men kalk aan, terwijl op de bodem van de slenk, het carboon dichter aan de oppervlakte komt, en de kalk (mergel) er verzonken is.

Ook in het landschap ter plekke is dit goed waarneembaar. Het voor Limburg zo kenmerkende glooiende landschap, vinden we in het betreffende veld niet terug. Het ziet er uit alsof het abrupt naar beneden gezakt is, hetgeen ook werkelijk het geval is.

Er waren een paar mensen die dachten dat de formatie later veranderd was, en wel zodanig, dat er in het staande graan van de grootste cirkel een gedeelte van het graan pas later zou zijn gaan liggen.
De landeigenaar onder andere vertelde me dit.
Een reconstructie laat zien dat dat niet juist is. In een telefoongesprek dat ik met hem had op 14-6-2000, vertelde hij me dat de verandering was ontstaan in de nacht van 5 op 6 juni 2000. Anderen suggereerden andere data. Natuurlijk controleerde ik dat allemaal.

Data en feiten:

31-05-2000 De boer inspecteert het veld, en heeft geen graancirkel gezien.
01-06-2000 De formatie is gezien in het veld. Navraag op 15-6-2000 bij een ooggetuige geeft aan, dat het staande graan in de grootste cirkel, een struktuur vertoonde. (De twee "happen")
03-06-2000 Ludwig de Vocht, een Belgische cereoloog, rapporteert de formatie aan de Dutch Cropcircle Webring. Na zijn rapportage heb ik met de boer gebeld, die nog niets van een graancirkel afwist. Hij hoorde er van mij voor het eerst van. Later die dag belde ik hem nogmaals, en vertelde hij me dat er daadwerkelijk een graancirkel in zijn veld was.
04-06-2000 Ik bezoek zelf de formatie en maak een tekening, en vele foto's
06-06-2000 Volgens de boer zou de graancirkel in de nacht van 5 op 6 juni veranderd zijn.
08-06-2000 Frank Laumen uit Duitsland bezoekt de formatie en maakt foto's. Zijn foto's tonen dezelfde figuren als die van mij. Een en ander stemt ook overeen met hetgeen de ooggetuige op 1-6-2000 waargenomen heeft.

Deze feiten geven duidelijk aan dat er totaal geen sprake is van een veranderde formatie.
Ik denk dat de boer tijdens zijn eerste bezoek de twee "happen" uit het centrum van de grote formatie over het hoofd heeft gezien.

Toevoeging d.d. 27-6-2000

Een paar dagen nadat ik zelf de formatie had bezocht, kwam ik in kontakt met de 15 jarige Hans ter Horst. Deze vertelde me een foto met een bijzonder lichtverschijnsel in de formatie te hebben opgenomen.
Daar ik ook deze lichtfenomenen bestudeer, zie elders op mijn site, vroeg ik hem de foto op te sturen. Vanuit mijn proffessie als fotograaf, heb ik na onderzoek vastgesteld, dat het hier geen fotografisch verklaarbaar verschijnsel is, en het daadwerkelijk een interessante foto van een lichtverschijnsel zoals dat wel vaker in graancirkels, en op andere krachtplaatsen op foto materiaal wordt vastgelegd.

Toevoeging d.d. 19-7-2000

Van Dhr. J Hochs ontving ik bijgaande foto, waarop een lichtverschijnsel te zien is. Gezien mijn 30 jarige achtergrond als beroepsfotograaf, kan ik deze foto slechts bestempelen als een bijzonder fenomeen, dat zich op de foto heeft laten zien. Het betreft een foto uit een serie van meerdere, dirct na elkaar opgenomen foto's. Alleen onderstaande foto heeft het verschijnsel.

Het lichtverschijnsel manifesteert zich in het midden van de grootste cirkel. Ik bedank bij deze de heer Hochs voor het beschikbaar stellen van deze foto

On Saturday 3-6-2000, The DCW (Dutch Cropcircle Webring) received a message from the Belgian cereologist Ludwig de Vocht, who drove on the highway A 76 from Heerlen (NL) To Aachen (B), and discovered the cropcircle formation. I thank Ludwig for his message

This field has been host for cropcircles in 1993 (Planets pictogram) and in the Dutch cropcircle top year 1996.

In the phonecall I had with the landowner, it seemed he didn’t had knowledge of the fact there was a cropformation in his field.

Afterwards reconstructing, it came out the formation appeared in the night from 31-5-2000- to 1-6-2000.

Going into the formation, offcourse using the tramlines, it came out the tramlines were not used before. No footsteps were found, so we came into a "clear" formation.

The stems of the young vegetation were not broken, but bent. The weather was perfect for growing vegetary, so the laying crop was growing in vertical direction again.

Measurements in the formation didn’t show any significant deviations of the compass used, within, and outside the formation.

Remarkable is that my GSM phone didn’t work inside the formation, although it received enough signal.

Real interesting information was received by me, from Karin and Peter, who I met in the formation. They told me the field was part of a large construction of lines of fractures.

The formation appeared in the field which is known as the " Benzenraderbreuk", being part of the "Rijdalslenk", to which also other lines of fractures belong, such as the "Feldbies" and the "peellandbreuk".

This line of fracture did arise 35 million years ago, during the Oligoceen. On the top of the hills chalk is to be found. In the lower parts Carbon is closer to the surface, and chalk is deeper to be found.

This information is good to be seen in the landscape. The part of Holland called Limburg has a specific outlook. The area the cropformation appeared in, is very different for that area. The field the formation appeared in, seems to be lowered in the landscape.

Some people thought the formation had changed. In the centre part of the largest circle, the standing stems should be flattened afterwards, creating two holes. The landowner told so.
A reconstructions tell's us he was wrong. In a phone call I had with him, het told, the formation should be changed in the night from 5 to 6 June. Other persons suggested other date's. Ofcouse I did check it all.

Dates and facts:

31-05-2000 The farmer inspects the field, and no cropcircle was found.
01-06-2000 The formation is seen in the field.
01-06-2000 As we checked out today, an eye witnes tell's us, the biggest circle in the formation had standing crop, with a structure. (The two holes in it)
03-06-2000 Ludwig de Vocht from Belgium reports the formation at the Dutch Cropcircle Webring. After this report, I had a phone call with the farmer. He didn't even know there was a cropcircle, he heard about it from me. Later that day, I called him again, and he told me, there really was a formation.
04-06-2000 I went to the formation, made a drawing and a lot of pictures.
06-06-2000 According to the farmer, the formation should have changed during the night of 5-6 to 6-6 2000
08-06-2000 Frank Laumen, from Germany, visits the cropcircle and takes some pictures. His pictures shows the same figure as mine. It is the same formation as the eyewinees saw at 1-6-2000.

These facts make clear, the formation didn't change at all.

I suppose the farmer overlooked the two holes in the centre part of the largest circle, the first time he saw the formation.

addition: 27-6-2000

A few days after my visit of the formation, I became in contact with the 15 years old Dutch boy : Hans ter Horst. Who told me he had a special lichtorb on a picture, wich was taken in this formation.
Because I also research this phenomenon, (see on this site) I asked him to send it to me. Because of my proffession as a photographer, I examened the picture, and concluded, there is no normal photographical expanation for it. It really is a very interesting picture of the phenomenon, as it often apears on pictures, taken in cropcircles, or other powerplaces.

Adition: 19-7-2000

From Mr. J Hochs I received a picture, wich is showed above, in the Dutch version.  It shows a light orb coming out of the centre of the biggest circle. Because I am a proffesional photographer during the last 30 years, I can state this is not explanable in a photographical way, so it is a very nice picture of the light phenomenon, often seen at cropcircles. The picture is one of a sries of much more pictures, taken directly after eachother. Only this picture has the strange phenomenon
